Dr. Elena McAtee
Hello! I was born and raised in a small, South Texas town where I grew up trying to keep up with my three older brothers. I spent my summers swimming, and my love for the sport led me to Guilford College in North Carolina, where I swam for the college and studied Biology. While at Guilford, I discovered my passion for holistic health and the idea of taking control of one’s health destiny. With the support of my wonderful adviser (shout out to educators!), I decided to pursue a career in medicine.
I attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas where I met my husband and ER physician, Robert. We completed residency in Tucson, Arizona, practiced medicine for 4 years in central Texas, and moved to Los Alamos in 2020. With the wonderful community, beautiful landscapes and endless outdoor opportunities, we couldn’t be happier and plan to be here for years to come.
When it comes to practicing medicine, I strive to be comprehensive and advocate for patients’ health goals. I commonly say to my patients, “you are the captain of your ship (health) and I am here to help you navigate.” I truly enjoy family medicine and being able to care for patients of multiple ages, backgrounds, and complexities.
Outside of work, you can often find me spending time with my husband and two children exploring Northern New Mexico by foot, on bike, or in our camper. Another one of my happy places is behind a pottery wheel.
“I found Dr. McAtee to be focused on and concerned about a patient’s well-being; she will go the extra mile for them.”
